Rhonda J. Chick, CNM is a certified nurse-midwife at Women's Healthcare Associates in Portland, Oregon.
“My introduction to midwifery happened when I was 17 and my sister was born at home into the hands of a midwife. It wasn’t until I worked in the OB/GYN Department at the UCLA School of Medicine after graduating from college that I first thought about it as a career. Being exposed to the medical field in that way helped me realize the significance of the patient experience, particularly during life’s most vulnerable moments—and the positive impact I could have through the holistic lens of midwifery. From that point forward I did every job I could find related to women’s health before becoming a certified nurse-midwife in 2006.”
Being part of her patients’ lives over time as they transform and change is one of the things Rhonda appreciates most about the practice of midwifery. Whether that means helping them find the right method of contraception, or creating a safe space for them to have a fulfilling birth experience, she considers it a privilege to be part of the support network they rely on during times of both joy and challenge. She loves caring for women because of the unique way they consider their own health and the impact they can have on those around them. In addition to caring for women during pregnancy and childbirth, Rhonda enjoys wellness care, family planning and contraceptive care.
In her spare time Rhonda and her husband enjoy home improvement projects, hiking and traveling.
