Leah Miller, CNM, is a certified nurse-midwife in Portland, Oregon. Though not employed by Women's Healthcare Associates, she works as part of the WHA team, when needed, to care for patients at the hospital during labor and delivery.
“Every birth is remarkable; some are calm and some are more dramatic, but each comes with its own circumstances, its own energy and unique relationships. At the end, there is a new life in the world and being a part of that is truly a privilege.”
Leah first fell in love with birth during her student nursing obstetric rotations. Her first babe arrived in the middle of the night—a magical and indelible experience with a nurse-midwife in attendance. From that point forward, she knew she needed to learn more and her quest eventually brought her to Portland for doula training and, later, her master’s degree in nurse-midwifery. Today, Leah uses her innate curiosity and respect for the human experience to connect with birthing people and their families. She hopes that each person she supports during labor and childbirth remembers the experience as one where they felt valued, informed and in control of the process and satisfied with their body and what it accomplished.
When she’s not supporting the miracle of birth or wrangling two young children, Leah enjoys hiking, cooking and yoga.
