Deidra Delaney, CNM, MSN, is a certified nurse-midwife with Women's Healthcare Associates in Oregon City, Oregon.
“Providing equitable access to safe reproductive health care and informed decision making is very important to me. When people feel safe expressing their concerns and challenging a treatment plan that doesn’t meet their needs, I know we have been successful in building a relationship of mutual respect and trust and they feel like an equal partner in the decision making process.”
As a registered nurse working primarily in labor, delivery and postpartum for seven years, Deidra recognized a basic lack of education around normal physiologic changes and bodily autonomy in the people for whom she cared that inspired her to return to graduate school. With the intention of pursuing a career in women’s health care, she was introduced to nurse-midwifery. She found it offered the perfect combination of education and person-centered care across the lifespan—plus the ability to care for people during the life-changing transition to parenthood. Deidra recognizes how impactful a positive care experience during this period of life can be and hopes each person emerges with a greater appreciation of their own strength and power to manage their health. In addition to pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care, Deidra also provides gynecology and wellness care to people of all ages, including contraception counseling, hormone replacement therapy and the evaluation and management of common gynecologic concerns, such as abnormal bleeding, polycystic ovary syndrome, vaginitis and more.
Deidra grew up in the Troutdale/Gresham area. After spending six years in Texas, she is happy to be back in the Pacific Northwest with her two small children.
