Andrew Braun, MD, MPH, is an OB/GYN physician and surgeon with Women's Healthcare Associates, LLC in Portland, Oregon.
“One of the most satisfying parts of my job is when a patient feels comfortable enough to open up about things they’ve never been able to share with anyone else. Whether it's discussing sexual health or gynecological issues, I want to create an environment where people feel safe to talk openly about whatever is on their mind—and hearing the relief in someone’s voice when they realize they’ve found a provider they can trust is a real privilege.”
Dr. Braun’s path to becoming an OB/GYN began in high school, where the mentorship he received from teachers inspired him to pursue a career in healthcare. Later, his interest in reproductive rights led him to obstetrics and gynecology. As a queer man, Dr. Braun feels a special connection to caring for women, as it was the women in his life that helped him gain a sense of self when first navigating his own queerness. Today, he finds deep meaning in supporting his patients through some of the most vulnerable and transformative moments of their reproductive lives.
Dr. Braun is passionate about providing comprehensive reproductive healthcare, with a focus on pregnancy, contraception, family planning, abortion care and routine screenings. He also has expertise in treating abnormal uterine bleeding and performs minimally invasive surgeries, including hysterectomies and tubal sterilizations. He trained in a diverse environment and enjoys being able to care for people of all races, ethnicities and backgrounds. One of the things Dr. Braun appreciates most about his work is the human-to-human connection he has with patients. He sees each relationship as a partnership, where both the physician and patient rely on one another for important aspects of care. His approach is deeply influenced by the strong mentors he’s had during his training who modeled the type of mutual respect that forms the basis of strong therapeutic relationships.
In his free time, Dr. Braun enjoys the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, spending time outdoors, live music, theatre, queer/popular culture, spending time with friends and family, and of course tipping his local drag queens.
