Laura Rice, CNM, is a certified nurse-midwife in Portland, Oregon. Though not employed by Women's Healthcare Associates, she works as part of the WHA team, when needed, to care for patients at the hospital during labor and delivery.
"I love being able to watch someone find their strength, take ownership of their body and grow through the experience of birth. I approach labor support with humility and hope each person I meet during this intimate time remembers feeling heard, seen and supported through our interactions."
Laura's lifelong fascination with different cultures, religions and their values formed the seed of what would grow to become her vocation from the moment she witnessed her first birth working as a refugee advocate during college. From helping women establish care during pregnancy, to become a doula, a labor and delivery nurse and, finally, a nurse-midwife, Laura's goal has been to walk alongside patients during some of the most important transitions of their lives. She sees her role not only as supporting the birth of a child, but also of a parent—whether for the first time or as someone’s role changes as their family grows.
When she’s not supporting birthing people and new parents, Laura enjoys gardening, cooking, reading and hikes with her partner and their pooch.
