Studies suggest that up to 20% of pregnant people suffer from mood or anxiety disorders—and people with a history of or current mental health challenges or psychiatric diagnoses are vulnerable to worsening symptoms during or following pregnancy (postpartum).

WHA’s team of licensed mental health and psychiatric providers are available during pregnancy and the postpartum period with special training and care that is targeted to this time in your life—and, when needed—medication management that is attuned to the unique concerns that arise during pregnancy and chest/breastfeeding. This includes care for grief and loss and previously existing mental health conditions, as well as new or worsening conditions.

If you feel you would benefit from a referral to our behavioral health team to see a licensed therapist or psychiatric provider during or following pregnancy or after a pregnancy loss, please talk to your WHA obstetric care provider. Particularly if you have a history of or current challenges with a mental health diagnosis or substance use disorder—the earlier we are able to connect, the better.

Access to high quality mental health care is important for all people throughout all phases of life. We look forward to a future where this is universally recognized and care is readily accessible without stigma. For WHA patients experiencing mental health challenges outside of the pregnancy or postpartum periods, please ask your provider for more information on how to access services in the community.

If you’re pregnant and want to begin care at WHA–or need to schedule an appointment during your pregnancy, call us! Find a provider and location here.

Please have your insurance information handy before you begin scheduling.

This will allow our teams to check whether your plan may require a referral for the care you need or to prepare benefits information to share with you at your visit. If you do not enter insurance information when scheduling, you may be asked to pay a $200-$500 deposit before receiving service.
