PETERKORT NORTH

Donald G. Bair, M.D.
Dr. Bair has been in private practice in Portland since 1983. He received his medical degree from the University of Oregon Medical School in 1976, and completed his internship and residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He enjoys all aspects of his practice, and is especially interested in infertility and obstetrics. Dr. Bair and his wife have two sons, two daughters and five grandchildren. He is active in church service as well as the Boy Scouts. The Bair family enjoys all outdoor activities, especially water skiing, snow skiing, camping and hiking.

Danielle Dion, M.D.
Dr. Dion was born in Manhattan Beach, California and grew up in Carpinteria, a small town just south of Santa Barbara. She moved to Portland to attend Lewis & Clark College where she received an honors degree in Biochemistry and met her husband. She then moved back to California and worked as a wine chemist before moving east to Nashville, Tennessee, where she attended medical school and completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt University. As a second year resident, Dr. Dion won the resident-to-resident teaching award from the intern class. She was also honored with the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists Award for Special Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery, the Resident Research Award, and the Best Consultant to the Midwife Practice Award upon completing residency. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Although she enjoys all aspects of Ob/Gyn care, Dr. Dion is particularly interested in obstetrics, preventive health, and minimally invasive surgery. In her spare time, Dr. Dion enjoys cooking; hiking; exercise; and spending time with her husband, son, and cat.

Shirley A. Fox, M.D.
Dr. Fox grew up overseas and in the Portland area. She is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Dr. Fox completed her internship and residency at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Her special areas of interest include hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery, urogynecology, sports gynecology, and cross-cultural differences in medicine. She also embraces the challenges of caring for patients with pregnancy complications.

She and her husband are the proud parents of two daughters and an old English Sheepdog.

Maryanne B. Garvie-Loveland, M.D.
Dr. Garvie-Loveland grew up in Portland and attended St. Mary's Academy. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame. Medical school brought her to Dublin, Ireland where she attended University College Dublin School of Medicine.

While in medical school, she earned the academic gold medal in obstetrics and gynecology from the Irish National Maternity hospital. She then returned to the U.S. to complete her residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she was appointed chief resident. While at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Garvie-Loveland earned the Bayer resident teaching award, the Peckham teaching award and the AAGL award for excellence in laparoscopic surgical skills.

Dr Garvie-Loveland enjoys practicing obstetrics and gynecology because she enjoys the continuity of women's healthcare which incorporates both medical and surgical practices. She has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, family planning and perimenopausal health.

Dr. Garvie-Loveland is excited to return home to Portland and to the Pacific Northwest. In their spare time, Dr. Garvie-Loveland and her husband enjoy hiking, skiing, cooking and enjoying time with their golden retriever puppy.

Ben W. Johnson, M.D.
Dr. Johnson spent his childhood in Montana on a cattle and horse ranch. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana where he received his undergraduate degree in biology. After attending medical school at the University of North Dakota, Dr. Johnson did his specialty training in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Though Dr. Johnson liked Ann Arbor very much, the urge to move back west prevailed and he is delighted to be a part of Women's Healthcare Associates. Though he enjoys all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Johnson is particularly interested in advanced laparoscopic surgery and infertility. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities including cycling, running, rock climbing and all varieties of snow sports.

Marni S. Kwiecien, M.D.
Dr. Kwiecien was born in Gilroy, California. She spent most of her childhood in California and moved to Reno, Nevada during high school. She moved to Portland in 1990 and graduated from Portland State University in 1994 with a double major in science and social science. She attended medical school at the University of Nevada School of Medicine from 1994-1998 where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Her residency in obstetrics and gynecology was completed at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. Dr. Kwiecien has received the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation for Excellence in Academic Medicine as well as the Barbara H. O'Rourke Memorial Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

In her free time, Dr. Kwiecien enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and running.

Kathleen Raetz, C.N.M., M.S.N.
After practicing as a nurse midwife for 27 years, Katie retired from delivering babies in 2007. However, because caring for women is important to her, she supports her WHA colleagues by seeing those patients with urgent care needs, and by ensuring that annual exams and other routine care is provided in a timely manner. Katie feels especially proud to be a part of Women's Healthcare Associates, because of her exceptional physician and nurse practitioner colleagues. Katie received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of Portland, and completed her Master's in Nursing at the University of Kentucky.

Miles K. Seeley, M.D.
Dr. Seeley was born in Woodburn, Oregon. He received his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University in 1974. He served his internship and residency there as well. His special clinic interest is obstetrics. An avid runner, Dr. Seeley enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, golf and gardening. He and his wife live in Portland with their three daughters.

Timothy W. Stewart, M.D.
Dr. Stewart has been practicing with Women's Healthcare Associates clinicians since 1988. He received his undergraduate degree from Portland State University, and his medical training at Oregon Health & Science University, where he served both his internship and residency. During his medical school rotation in obstetrics and gynecology, he fell in love with the combination of pregnancy care, surgery, preventive healthcare and how pregnancy so positively affects families. His specialty has been a wonderful fit for him and his patients.

Dr. Stewart has lived on the West Coast all his life. He attended Tigard High School where he met his high school sweetheart, whom he married not long after graduation. The Stewarts have three sons who have made their parents proud with years of success in football, track, wrestling and basketball. The family also stays busy attending Sunset Presbyterian Church and their involvement in Young Life.

Sally J. Wentross, M.D.
Dr. Wentross joined Women's Healthcare Associates in 2000 after practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Corvallis, OR for six years. She is from Adrian, Michigan and attended Albion College and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She used her bachelor of arts in Spanish as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador. Her residency brought her to OHSU in Portland, OR. She and her family are delighted to return to their adopted hometown.

PETERKORT SOUTH

Christine M. Barlow, C.N.M., M.S.N.
Christine began her career in mental health. After graduating with a degree in psychology from the University of Virginia and practicing as a counselor in a residential treatment center for teens, she realized that her heart was leading her towards birth and midwifery. She attended midwifery school at Vanderbilt University and, following graduation, practiced as a midwife in a birth center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Christine enjoys helping women and their families embrace birth as a normal, empowering, and sacred event. Her goal is to offer women the opportunity to birth in a calm and supportive environment in which the laboring mother is in control and is the center of attention.

Christine moved to the Northwest because she loves spending time in the outdoors. She spends a large part of her free time running, hiking, snowshoeing, and camping. She also enjoys knitting, reading, and traveling to destinations across the United States to visit family and friends.

Trina A. Brodsky, M.D.
Dr. Brodsky was born and raised in Honolulu. She is a graduate of the University of Hawaii's John A. Burns School of Medicine, and completed a four year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Hawaii. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Before moving to Portland, Dr. Brodsky had a busy medical practice in Topeka, Kansas for 12 years. She and her husband have three sons. They enjoy their life in Portland and have become active Oregonians.

Jabke S. Buesseler, C.N.M, M.N.
Jabke grew up in The Netherlands and moved to the US when she was 18. She worked in Labor and Delivery as a Registered Nurse in Oregon for more than 20 years before returning to school to complete her master’s program in nurse midwifery at Oregon Health & Science University. During her training at OHSU, Jabke was awarded the Martha Browning-Bryant Scholarship.

Jabke enjoys promoting the physical and emotional wellness of women of all ages, and the challenge of caring for her patients in a way that enhances their overall well being. She considers it a great privilege to help women navigate through the unique challenges of pregnancy and explore their birthing options. She strives to support expectant mothers and their partners by facilitating the delivery experience they desire while safeguarding the wellbeing of both mother and baby.

While not taking care of patients, Jabke enjoys many outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and boating. She enjoys music, sings in a choir and plays the piano. She and her husband enjoy tending to their 20 acres of wooded land and taking care of their horses, chickens, cats, and dog. They have four grown children and two young grandchildren who live nearby. They share a love of travel, particularly to Jabke’s native Holland to keep up with family and friends. Jabke is fluent in Dutch and French and proficient in German. Her first name is pronounced “Yupka.”

Angeline K. Fujioka, C.N.M, A.R.N.P., M.P.H., M.N.
Angie is a native Northwesterner, although her experiences in nursing and midwifery have taken her all over the world. She grew up in Vancouver, Washington and attended Seattle Pacific University for her bachelor of science in nursing. After becoming an RN, Angie worked as a trauma nurse in Seattle, and then joined the Peace Corps, where she managed a maternal child health program for a community health hospital in the Dominican Republic. Angie returned to Washington, where she worked as a nurse on the labor and delivery unit of a hospital and also provided triage nursing at a walk-in medical clinic that provided services for low-income Latino families. She then pursued her graduate education, attending the University of Washington where she received her nurse-midwifery training and also received a master of public health. In addition to her graduate studies, she has trained Traditional Birth Attendants in Chiapas, Mexico, volunteered at a maternity hospital in Belize, and studied HIV and sexually transmitted infections in vulnerable populations in South America. Most recently, after finishing her nurse-midwifery training, Angie worked at the Center for Infectious Disease and Research in Zambia, where she provided midwifery care and also trained nurse midwives in the implementation of HIV services during labor and delivery.

Angie believes that being “with woman” as a midwife is an opportunity to support women and their families in the realization of optimal health throughout the various stages of a woman's life. She understands that pregnancy and birth are a natural process in a woman's life and she enjoys assisting women to achieve their own experience of that process. She is fluent in Spanish, and enjoys the opportunity to work with Spanish-speaking patients. In her spare time, Angie enjoys being outdoors, running, practicing yoga, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Lindsey Geunes, C.N.M., W.H.C.N.P, M.S.N.
Lindsey is a native of Portland and has wanted to deliver babies since she was a young girl. She earned her bachelor's degree in Women's Studies from the University of Arizona. After graduation, Lindsey worked in Tucson as a domestic violence counselor and then as a fitness instructor at Canyon Ranch. Lindsey subsequently earned her bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in nurse midwifery from the University of Pennsylvania. During her graduate studies, she worked as a nurse in a Mother Infant Unit. After graduating, Lindsey practiced midwifery in Allentown, Pennsylvania, providing full scope care to the women of the Lehigh Valley before returning to Portland to be closer to family. After returning to the area, Lindsey worked in Salem as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner before joining Women's Healthcare Associates.

As a practitioner, Lindsey aims to work in a partnership with her clients: providing information while empowering them to make their own informed decisions regarding their health. She believes it is an honor to attend births and facilitate an environment in which women feel supported and are able to trust their bodies in the miracle of birth.

Lindsey has a wonderful and supportive husband and two delightful daughters. She enjoys spending time with her family. She also has a passion for music and movies.

W. Gary Hoffman, M.D.
Dr. Hoffman grew up in New England where he spent his summers working on a farm and playing baseball. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine - and met his wife, a native Oregonian.

He has been moving west ever since, attending medical school at St. Louis University, and completing his internship and residency at the Oregon Health & Science University. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has been in practice at St. Vincent's hospital since 1991. Dr. Hoffman has assumed leadership roles at Women's Healthcare Associates since its inception, and is currently serving as its President.

Natalie Jacobson-Dunlop, C.N.M., M.S.
Natalie has worked in women's healthcare since 2000. She began her career in Chicago, working in a variety of areas: gynecologic and obstetric care, alternative insemination, fertility awareness, and childbirth education. She was a contributing author of the 2005 edition of Our Bodies Ourselves. She moved to Portland in 2004 to attend Oregon Health & Science University's Nurse-Midwifery/Nurse-Practitioner program. She has since practiced in a variety of settings, presented her master's research at the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) conference and has been involved in research on doula care for vulnerable populations.

Natalie is passionate about providing sensitive, woman- and family-centered care to all women, regardless of ethnicity, socio-economic status, religion, gender identification, sexual orientation or age. She strives to empower each woman to be an active participant in her own healthcare, by respecting her unique needs and choices, and by providing her with the most current information.

Natalie offers care to women in the clinic setting, and is not doing deliveries, so she can better care for her twin toddler daughters. She is very fortunate to be married to an incredible and very supportive husband. Spending time with her family, running with their dog, creating art, and eating good food brings her joy. She is thrilled to be a member of WHA's outstanding team.

Anna U. Karlsson, M.D.
"Compassionate," "caring," and "conscientious" are some of the words used to describe Dr. Karlsson by her colleagues. She believes that optimal healthcare comes from providing a nonjudgmental and nurturing environment emphasizing education and preventive care. Dr. Karlsson received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, her medical degree from the University of Iowa, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She has supplemented her education by working with women in a rape crisis center, with women and their children in a drug addiction treatment center, and by being an aide in a rehabilitation home for the elderly.

Mary E. Lewis-Rott, C.N.M., M.N.
Mary earned her nursing degree in 1980 in California and her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Washington in 1995. In 1997 she completed her masters of nurse midwifery at the University of Washington. Mary brings many years of nursing experience to midwifery, together with eleven years working in labor and delivery. Her midwifery care is based on the philosophy that the relationship between a woman and the midwife is a partnership. She enjoys being part of the educational process that helps women make informed decisions regarding their healthcare and pregnancy.

Laura Morrison, M.D. M.P.H.
Dr. Morrison was born in Taiwan but grew up on a fruit and vegetable farm in Michigan. She met her husband at Swarthmore College, where she received her undergraduate degree in engineering. She then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she studied the reproductive hormones of sheep, attended medical school at the University of Michigan, received a Master of Public Health, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Morrison is particularly interested in vulvar disorders, adolescent gynecology, preventive women's health, and delivering babies. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Before joining Women's Healthcare Associates, Dr. Morrison practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Hillsboro, Oregon. She and her husband are the proud parents of four children, who provide numerous storytelling opportunities. She also enjoys knitting, running, cooking, and literature.

Catherine F. Pelosi, C.N.M., M.S.
Kate was born and raised in Ohio and studied nursing at the University of Cincinnati. After moving to Oregon in 1975, she completed her bachelor of science in nursing at the Oregon Health & Science University. Kate practiced nursing for 10 years before returning to the master's program in nurse-midwifery at OHSU, a program she completed in 1989. Kate maintains a position as Associate Faculty at OHSU in both the departments of obstetrics and nursing and is involved in the education of nurse midwives and nurse practitioners. Kate is fluent in Spanish and enjoys any opportunity to put that skill to use.

Theresa S. Simpson, M.D.
Dr. Simpson practiced with Kaiser Permanente in Honolulu, Hawaii for 10 years before joining Women's Healthcare Associates in 2002. She was born in Great Falls, Montana and received her undergraduate degree in biological sciences with a minor in chemistry from Montana State University. She received her medical degree in 1988 from the University of Washington and went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Simpson was also a Visiting Scholar in Urology at the University of Washington Medical Center. When Dr. Simpson is away from work she enjoys hiking, tennis and travel.

Lori A. Skoczylas, W.H.C.N.P.
Lori received her nurse practitioner training in 1977 from Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. She is nationally certified in women's healthcare, and has been seeing patients here since 1981. Lori's special interests include preventive healthcare and contraceptive management. She enjoys taking care of women at all stages of life from adolescence through menopause. Lori and her dog volunteer through a local pet assisted therapy program. Her favorite pastimes include bird watching, photography and walking.

Carol G. Stull, M.D.
Dr. Stull grew up in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. After graduation from Duke University with a degree in zoology, she attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Cincinnati. She served four years at the Naval Hospital Bremerton in Washington, after which she separated from the service. She then spent ten years in private practice in Evansville, Indiana. She enjoys all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Stull and her husband have three children, and are very involved in their education and musicianship. The family collects books, skis, hikes, cooks and keeps fit.

Anthony M. Taitano, M.D.
Dr. Taitano graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in physiology. He received his medical degree from the University of Hawaii in 1977. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency in Oregon. Dr. Taitano enjoys being an obstetrician and gynecologist. He is a conscientious and caring physician who listens to his patients.

His areas of interest are family planning, pregnancy care and delivering babies. He has a special interest in taking care of women in menopause. He and his wife were married in 1973, and have lived in Oregon since 1977. They have two accomplished sons. Dr. Taitano has also trained as a classical pianist and loves musicals.

Damon A. Warhus, M.D.
Dr. Warhus was born in Sacramento, California and had lived his entire life in California until joining Women's Healthcare Associates in 2001. He received his undergraduate degree in physiology at the University of California at Davis in 1993 and his medical degree at the University of California in San Diego in 1997. He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Clara, California. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Warhus and his wife have been married since 1994 and have two children. In addition to sharing his free time with his family, he enjoys outdoor and fitness activities including cycling, hiking, and basketball.

Helen C. Welch, C.N.M., M.S.N.
Helen was born at home in Berkshire, England into the hands of a midwife. She qualified as a nurse and midwife in England in 1981 and has been assisting women and their families to safely negotiate pregnancy and birth ever since. She emigrated to the United States in 1985 following marriage to her American husband. In 1995, Helen obtained her master's degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and in 2008 she was awarded the prestigious American Academy of Nurse Practitioners State of Oregon Award for Clinical Excellence.

Helen believes pregnancy and birth are a part of the normal life process for a woman. She understands her role is to guard this process, intervening only when necessary to protect the health of mother or baby. She particularly enjoys the long-term relationships she is able to establish with women who return to see her on a yearly basis. Helen has a wonderful and very patient husband and two incredible children.

TUALATIN

Gina R. Allison, M.D.
Dr. Allison grew up in Renton, Washington. She was awarded a four-year academic scholarship to the University of Washington, where she completed her undergraduate degree in women's studies. In 2001, Dr. Allison received her medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She then moved to Portland for her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Oregon Health & Science University.

Dr. Allison recognizes that many aspects of a woman's life contribute to her well being. She enjoys the special relationship she forms with her patients while caring for them. Her special clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, vulvar health, sexuality, and lactation care.

When not at work, Dr. Allison enjoys hiking, backpacking, telemark skiing, running, cooking, and home renovation. She is married and has two children.

Anton K. Broms, M.D.
Dr. Broms is a native of Portland and has lived in Oregon all his life, except when he attended college and medical school. Dr. Broms attended Stanford University and then received his medical degree and obstetrics and gynecology specialty training at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Broms enjoys all aspects of the obstetrics and gynecology field. He truly enjoys delivering babies at all hours. He is also very interested in helping women with menopausal issues. His challenge and passion is his educational relationship with patients. He believes that, through good communication, patients are able to understand issues and fully participate in the decision-making process.

Dr. Burgoine is a lifelong Oregonian and attended the University of Oregon, earning his degree with honors and graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He received his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University. He continued at OHSU for his residency training, receiving the John S. Miller Award, the Berlex Teaching Award and the Howard P. Lewis Award. He also published research on the emotional impact on women of perinatal loss and grief. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Burgoine is delighted by the honor of attending birth and the unique partnership he shares with women in their care throughout life. His goal is to improve a woman's health by helping her choose among screening, imaging, medical or surgical options with the most benefit and least disruption to her life. In addition to enjoying the diverse scope of practice as an obstetrician and gynecologist, his particular interests include minimally invasive surgery, gynecologic imaging and ultrasound, contraception and vulvar disease.

Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his very patient wife and energetic daughters, fussing in the garden, tinkering as a woodworker and reading about travel.

Allard J. Conger, M.D.
Dr. Conger is a native Oregonian, who was born and raised in Astoria. He is an Oregon Duck who graduated with a degree in basic sciences and then he attended Oregon Health & Science University where he received his medical degree with honors. After completing his internship and residency the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver, he became board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Conger is especially interested in the management of incontinence and pelvic reconstructive surgery although he still enjoys the special relationships he establishes with his obstetrical patients. Away from his practice, Dr. Conger enjoys outdoor activities with his family.

Catherine E. Crim, M.D.
Dr. Crim is a native of Connecticut. She received her bachelor of arts in biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and received her medical degree from the University of California at Davis. After completing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology, she migrated to Oregon to join her extended family here. After practicing obstetrics for several years, she focused primarily on the practice of gynecology, with a special interest in patient education. She sees patients of all age groups, with many different concerns. Dr. Crim lives with her husband and their two sons. She especially enjoys time with her family and friends and outdoor activities including sports and gardening.

Carrie Dennison, W.H.C.N.P., A.N.P.
Carrie grew up in Wisconsin and sampled many locations around the United States and Europe, before settling down with her family in Wilsonville. She completed her master's degree as a nurse practitioner with specialties in women's health and adult health at Oregon Health & Science University.

Carrie has devoted her career to the care and support of women of all ages. She loves working with women and encourages her patients to create the healthiest lifestyle they can for themselves. She is knowledgeable about many alternative health practices and is supportive of her patients who choose to use them.

Stephen G. Girolami, M.D.
Dr. Girolami was born in Butte, Montana and graduated from Carroll College in Helena. Upon graduating from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1983, he entered the United States Navy Medical Corps and completed an internship in family practice. It was during this time that he was so captivated with the miracle of life that he changed his specialty to obstetrics and gynecology.

Upon completing his residency in San Diego, Dr. Girolami was stationed at Whidbey Island in Bremerton, Washington. He joined Women's Healthcare Associates in 1991. His clinical interest is high-risk obstetrics. In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors, traveling, music and theatre. He has two daughters.

Lori L. Goranson, M.D.
Dr. Goranson grew up in Hillsboro, Oregon and majored in Biology at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She attended medical school at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Goranson completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.

During her residency, Dr. Goranson won an award from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for her research on an automated Group B streptococcus test used in the care of pregnant women. Following the completion of her residency, Dr. Goranson held an academic appointment as a clinical instructor at Dartmouth Medical School.

Dr. Goranson enjoys caring for women throughout different stages of their lives, including adolescence, the childbearing years, pregnancy, and menopause. As an obstetrician and gynecologist, she works together with her patients to ensure that they receive the care, education, and treatment that suits them best. Her special areas of interest include contraception, evaluation and management of abnormal pap smears, minimally invasive treatment options, and general obstetrics.

Dr. Goranson enjoys cooking, traveling, and biking around Portland. She also enjoys spending time with her friends and family, including her husband, son, and French Bulldog. She is happy to return home to the Pacific Northwest after spending five years in New England!

Jennifer S. Kelly, M.D.
Dr. Kelly grew up in Canby, Oregon and earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Portland State University. She attended medical school at Oregon Health & Science University, and did an internship at the University of Iowa. Dr. Kelly completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at OHSU, and recently won the Portland Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Annual Research Award for her resident research project on shoulder dystocia.

As an Ob/Gyn, Dr. Kelly's goal is to be an advocate for and educator of women about their own health and medical options. She loves the variety of providing for women's health needs during adolescence, the reproductive years, menopause and beyond. In her spare time, Dr. Kelly enjoys hiking and outdoor activities with her husband and their two dogs. She plays the piano and loves to read a variety of genres, and considers herself fortunate to be able to spend time with her friends and family in the Oregon area.

Drea C. Olmstead, M.D.
Dr. Olmstead grew up in Bellevue, Washington. She attended Occidental College in Los Angeles where she received her bachelor of arts in biology in 1986. She was thrilled to move back to the northwest to attend the University of Washington School of Medicine. She moved to Oregon in 1990 and completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Oregon Health & Science University. She is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been in practice with Women's Healthcare Associates since 1994. Her clinical interests include obstetrics, domestic violence, adolescent gynecology, pelvic surgery, and many others.

Dr. Olmstead and her husband have been married since 1986. They experienced the miracle of birth first hand when their son was born in 1996, and again with their daughter in 1999. Dr. Olmstead enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, snow skiing, and traveling.

Lisa C. Pew, M.D.
Dr. Pew was born and raised in Ohio. She received her bachelor of science in molecular genetics from Ohio State University in 1988. She married her husband in the summer of 1988 and moved to St. Louis, Missouri. In 1992, she graduated first in her class from St. Louis University Medical School. After completing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Oregon Health & Science University in 1996, Dr. Pew joined Women's Healthcare Associates. She is board certified.

While Dr. Pew enjoys all aspects of women's healthcare, she especially likes obstetrics and the bond she forms with her patients and their families. Other interests include gynecologic laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Pew and her husband have two sons, and spend their free time biking, sailing and enjoying the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Daniel C. Schrinsky, M.D.
Dr. Schrinsky was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was a sports fanatic as a kid.

His undergraduate degree is in philosophy and he attended the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his residency at the Oregon Health & Science University, earning the Outstanding Resident Teaching Award. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been in practice in the Lake Oswego area since 1978.

Dr. Schrinsky has a terrific wife and admits to being very proud of his four children. He has an interest in hysteroscopic surgery and currently serves as Medical Director of Women's Healthcare Associates.

Marguerite R. Stewart, M.D.
Dr. Stewart was born in Detroit, Michigan and practiced with Kaiser Permanente before joining Women's Healthcare Associates in 2002. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan where she graduated cum laude. She received her medical degree in 1985 from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan and went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia where she was selected as Chief Resident for 1988/1989 for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

When Dr. Stewart is away from work she enjoys spending time with her husband and her three children. She also likes cooking, making quilts, running, and digging in the garden.

Harold G. Vick, M.D.
Dr. Vick, a 3rd generation Oregonian, graduated from Oregon City High School and received his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University. After finishing his residency at OHSU in 1977, he and Dr Schrinsky established the Lake Grove Women's Clinic. After delivering babies for 30 years, Dr Vick now focuses solely on gynecology and specifically GYN laparoscopic surgery. He is especially interested in the management of fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding and the menopause. He considers his practice a gift.

He has been married to his wife for nearly 40 years. His wife, two children and 5 grandchildren are the light of his life. His relationship with God is the central focus of his life, and he has served in Africa and Bangladesh multiple times as a medical missionary.

Sandra L. Emmons, M.D.
Dr. Emmons grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and attended McGill University in Montreal for her undergraduate degree in biochemistry. She worked in immunology research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, and then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine. She completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Oregon Health & Science University in 1989. She joined the OHSU Ob/Gyn faculty in 1989, and she most recently was an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Education.

Dr. Emmons's research interests include medical education and the use of acupuncture in women's health. Her clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery and infectious disease. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Emmons and her family moved to Newberg two years ago, and recently finished building their dream house in the country. She is an avid gardener.

David P. Johnson, M.D.
Dr. Johnson graduated from Wheaton College with a bachelor of science in chemistry. In 1983, he received his medical degree from the University of Maryland. After completing a residency in Baltimore, Maryland, he began his current practice in 1987. Dr. Johnson served as Medical Director of the Providence St. Vincent Prenatal Clinic for nine years and chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Vincent for 11 years before starting Women's Healthcare Associates, LLC's Newberg office in 2003. Dr. Johnson is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. He feels blessed to have the privilege of partnering with women to provide healthcare from childbirth to menopause.

When away from the hospital, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with his three children and can often be found skiing on the mountain, wake boarding on the river, or swimming in the pool.

Jody M. Lindwall, C.N.M., M.S.N.
Jody grew up in Southern California, and attended Yale University for her bachelor's degree in Women's Studies. During the first three years after college, Jody taught English in Costa Rica where she became fluent in Spanish. Upon her return to the US, Jody lived in Texas where she worked as a bilingual home parent educator and volunteered with the March of Dimes providing prenatal education to Spanish-speaking, undocumented immigrant families. In 2000, Jody was awarded a National Health Service Corps Scholarship to study to become a nurse-midwife. Jody completed her nurse-midwifery training in 2002 at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Before coming to Oregon, Jody lived in Lowell, Massachusetts where she helped start the midwifery practice at a local community health center.

Jody believes there are few events in life as humbling as watching a woman give herself over to the rhythms of birth. She feels privileged to be a part of this moment with so many women and their families. She is dedicated to empowering women to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health and advocating for their right to make those decisions.

In her spare time, Jody enjoys eating out, music, quilting, cycling, and hiking.

Lauren S. MacKenzie, C.N.M., M.S.N.
Lauren grew up on the Florida coast. She moved to the Northwest to attend Reed College for her undergraduate degree in Psychology, and subsequently fell in love with Portland and the practice of midwifery. After college, she pursued graduate training in nurse midwifery at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, which is where she met and became friends with fellow WHA midwives Christine Barlow and Jody Lindwall. While at Vanderbilt, Lauren won the American College of Nurse Midwives Foundation Scholarship, which is awarded annually to an outstanding midwifery student. Before joining WHA, Lauren practiced full-scope midwifery at a clinic for low-income women. She also worked as a registered nurse on labor and delivery and as a medical examiner for a sexual assault center.

Lauren loves midwifery because it allows her to help women understand the changes they undergo during very important times in their lives. She enjoys being a resource of information and experience, and hopes for all her patients to feel empowered enough to decide which path is right for them. Her special interests include working with teens, with a focus on family planning and healthy choices, and working with underserved populations. She has volunteered internationally with Doctors Without Borders as well as locally with the Opening Doors and Project Network programs.

Lauren is married to her high school sweetheart. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, music, traveling, and loves the outdoors.

NORTHWEST GYNECOLOGY CENTER

Carole E. Cottet, W.H.C.N.P.
Carole is an enthusiastic Oregonian, and except for attending Harbor/UCLA, she has been a Portland metro area resident her entire life. She received her women's health education at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center, and family practice training at Oregon Health & Science University. Carole is board-certified in both women's health and family practice, but her practice is now focused on gynecology, helping women maintain optimum health through the various stages of their lives, from puberty to menopause. She has a special interest in PMS, chronic vaginitis and menopause, and is a recognized leader in osteoporosis diagnosis and management.

Susan A. Hobson, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Hobson received both her MD and PhD degrees from Oregon Health & Science University. Her research was in the department of Cellular and Molecular Biology, and focused on intracellular signaling pathways. She then continued at OHSU for her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

From the beginning, she knew she would focus on Urogynecology and Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. After five years of private practice in a Portland Urogynecology Specialty group, she chose to join Women's Healthcare Associates as part of Northwest Gynecology Center, developing a Urogynecology Program focused not only on treating pelvic floor disorders, but on attempting to prevent and better understand pelvic floor injuries.

Dr. Hobson is a steering committee member in the multidisciplinary Providence Continence Center, and is the Gynecology Section Chair at Providence St. Vincent's Hospital. She is married and stays very busy keeping up with her three girls.

Liberato Mukul, M.D.
Dr. Mukul was raised in southern California. He majored in nutrition science and received his medical degree at the University of Southern California in 1997. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco, CA. Following residency, Dr. Mukul practiced Ob/Gyn in South San Francisco for two years and was a clinical instructor at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Mukul's passion for minimally invasive surgery led him to complete a fellowship in advanced endoscopy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2004 he joined the faculty at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Campus as the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Director of Denver Veterans Affairs Women's Health Services. During his time at the University of Colorado, Dr. Mukul developed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and helped create a multidisciplinary center for minimally invasive surgery. He also served as director of the gynecology curriculum for residents and associate director for medical students. He has received many awards for community service and was an Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics/Solvay Scholar in 2007.

Dr. Mukul's interests are in helping patients choose the best medical or surgical alternative with the least impact on daily life. His clinical focus includes menstrual irregularities, fibroid treatment options, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, polycystic ovary syndrome, and sterilization options. He also continues to work in the areas of surgical education and quality improvement. He is board certified in OB/GYN and speaks fluent Spanish.

In his spare time, Dr. Mukul enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, running, camping, SCUBA, and travel.

NORTHWEST PERINATAL CENTER

Wendy L. Busch, M.S.
Wendy was born and raised in New York City and, in 1979, moved to Oregon by way of San Francisco. A combined interest in women's health, counseling and genetics influenced her decision to complete a master's program in genetic counseling. She and her husband returned to the East coast to complete their fields of study and, following graduation, immediately returned to the Northwest.

In her spare time, Wendy enjoys reading, foreign films, dance (watching, not doing) and spending many hours at her sons' various sports activities.

Debra N. Guinn, M.D.
Dr. Guinn grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. She received her undergraduate degree from Colgate University in upstate New York. She completed medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University in Chicago. It was clear to Dr. Guinn from the start that she loved caring for women experiencing complicated pregnancies, so she pursued a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

Since her fellowship, Dr. Guinn has practiced maternal-fetal medicine at several major academic medical centers in Chicago. Most recently, she served as Chief of Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Denver Health and Hospital Authority and was an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Guinn has received numerous teaching and research awards from organizations such as the national Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She has published extensively on optimal use of antenatal corticosteroids to prevent neonatal complications of prematurity, strategies to prevent preterm delivery and management of women experiencing problems during labor and delivery. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine.

Dr. Guinn and her husband have three children. In her spare time, she enjoys being a mom and doing pilates.

Karen E. Hansen, M.S.
Karen grew up in Portland, Oregon. She stayed in the Northwest for her undergraduate education, earning a degree in psychology from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. After finishing college, she spent a year volunteering at an orphanage in Nicaragua. She completed her master's degree in human genetics at Sarah Lawrence College in New York.

Karen has a strong interest in human genetics and how it connects and impacts families and individuals. She enjoys helping translate medical and genetic information into knowledge that is understandable and usable to patients. Her specific interest is in health psychology.

In her spare time, Karen enjoys cooking, spending time outdoors, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and participating in various community service activities.

Thomas Lee, M.D.
Dr. Lee attended Dartmouth College for his undergraduate studies where he majored in biochemistry. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. After finishing his residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, he completed his subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Women & Infants' Hospital of Rhode Island/Brown University. He is board certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Dr. Lee thoroughly enjoys taking care of all high risk pregnancies, however has special interest in the fields of diabetes in pregnancy, preterm delivery, and non-invasive aneuploidy detection. He is also involved in electronic health information management and development.

When away from work, Dr. Lee enjoys spending time with family and friends. His hobbies include bicycling, motorcycling, snowboarding, cooking, and traveling.

Juan Martinez-Poyer, M.D.
Dr. Martinez-Poyer was born and raised in Venezuela. He received his medical degree from Luis Razetti, M.D. Medical School at the Central University of Venezuela. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology and fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Before joining Women's Healthcare Associates in January 2003, Dr. Martinez-Poyer served as chief of service (obstetrics and gynecology) at Three Rivers Area Hospital in Three Rivers, Michigan.

Dr. Martinez-Poyer has been involved in research in the areas of obstetric ultrasound, perinatal and maternal-fetal medicine and has received awards for his research work on fetal left cardiac function. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine.

When not at work Dr. Martinez-Poyer enjoys traveling, reading, dancing and, most of all, spending time with family and friends.

Jeri L. Milanovich, M.S.
Jeri was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. Continuing a family tradition, she attended Willamette University where she received her bachelor's degree in biology.

Jeri's interest in human genetics and psychology led her to pursue the field of genetic counseling. She studied genetic counseling at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York and upon receiving her master's degree, returned to the Pacific Northwest.

Jeri enjoys many of Oregon's seasonal activities. Snow skiing fills her winter weekends, while the summer months afford the opportunity for water skiing, hiking, tennis and golf.

Santosh Pandipati, M.D.
Dr. Pandipati was born in India. His family moved to the United States when he was three, and eventually settled in Maryland. He received both his bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences and his medical training from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After medical school, he completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. He subsequently did his fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. Dr. Pandipati has received many honors during his medical training, including election to Alpha Omega Alpha and Best Teaching Resident. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and in maternal-fetal medicine.

Dr. Pandipati loves maternal-fetal medicine for the blend of medical, surgical, and radiologic practice it affords. He enjoys the challenge of providing skillful and compassionate care for both mother and fetus. His specific clinical interests include intrauterine growth restriction, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, critical care obstetrics, and Doppler ultrasound.

Away from work, Dr. Pandipati enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, as well as experimenting with cooking, exercising, philosophizing, and taking his beloved golden retriever on long walks.

Mark W. Tomlinson, M.D., M.B.A.
Dr. Tomlinson was raised in Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan's upper peninsula. He received his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit.

Dr. Tomlinson completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California and following the residency, it was time to pay back a commitment to the U.S. Air Force. An assignment in Anchorage, Alaska came as a real shock after four years of living in California. However he and his wife loved Alaska, and the practical medical experience he gained there was invaluable.

In 1991 he was board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Tomlinson returned to Wayne State University for his subspecialty training in maternal-fetal medicine. He then joined the medical school faculty teaching obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine. In 1997 he was board certified in maternal-fetal medicine.

Peter T. Watson, M.D.
Dr. Watson was born in New York and raised in Philadelphia. He graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts and obtained his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Colorado, and went on to a fellowship in perinatology (high-risk obstetrics) at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

While in medical school, Dr. Watson met and married his wife. Their family includes two grown sons. Dr. Watson's recreational interests include soccer, skiing, fly fishing, and golf.

As Oregon's first community Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist, he established the Emanuel Perinatal Center in 1979, and in 1992 founded the Northwest Perinatal Center at St. Vincent's Hospital.
