As a child growing up in a family of 10 children, Mattie spent time in Wisconsin, her mother’s native New Zealand and Minnesota. As a young adult, she lived in Eugene and attended the University of Oregon before deciding on healthcare as a career and moving to Portland to attend Oregon Health & Sciences University. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from OHSU graduating with honors in both programs. Mattie also received the Dorothy L Johnson Memorial Award for innovation, creativity and insight in nursing.
Growing up in a large family has helped Mattie recognize the value of listening in understanding an individual and providing good medical care. She enjoys interacting with women and their families and the journey she is able to take with patients in helping them face medical issues. She finds it very satisfying to support women in taking control of their health through the knowledge and understanding she is able to provide. She has a wide variety of experience caring for women in many settings, including preventive care and helping them with routine and complex gynecological issues.
Mattie enjoys gardening and cooking with homegrown vegetables and herbs. She is also an avid reader and film buff and enjoys camping, hiking and spending time with her husband and siblings.
